Melamine Canteen Table

The melamine canteen table is the solution that balances durability against budget in canteen equipment. Produced by Sırasan under code YM 02, this table is widely used in school, institutional and dormitory canteens with its 30 mm thick melamine top and 80×140 cm standard size. The top size can be changed to suit the plan of the space.

What difference does a 30 mm top make?

Top thickness is often overlooked in canteen tables, yet it directly determines how the table behaves. The 18 mm tops common on the market flex slightly in the middle over a span as long as 140 cm; that flex is felt when someone leans on the table and can turn into a permanent dip over time.

A 30 mm top removes that flex. It also widens the surface the edge band adheres to, strengthening its grip — and since lifted edge banding is the most common failure in canteens, this is a detail that decides service life. A thicker top also gives the table a more solid, institutional appearance.

The advantage of a melamine surface

A melamine surface wipes clean, does not stain and withstands the standard detergents used in canteen cleaning. Its greatest advantage is colour and pattern variety: compared with the wood texture of Werzalit, melamine offers a far wider chart, from plain colours to wood decors. That flexibility matters in canteens that want corporate colour harmony or colour coding by section.

Edges are sealed with PVC banding. Where wet cleaning is very intensive and the edges are in constant contact with water, we recommend our Werzalit-top model instead; there the body itself is moisture resistant and there is no band to lift. We explain the difference between the two models plainly before the order.

Size flexibility

The standard size is 80×140 cm and suits six people in a facing layout. Canteen plans, however, differ enormously: narrow and long halls, spaces with columns, alcoves and corner areas cannot always be filled efficiently with a standard size.

For that reason, alternative top sizes are available. Longer tables allow a row layout; shorter tables let corners be put to use. Because production takes place in our own facility, a custom size is planned without depending on a sub-supplier and does not noticeably extend the delivery time compared with standard production.

Frame and durability

The frame is made from steel profile and finished with electrostatic powder coating. Because the coating is oven-cured and bonded to the metal, it does not blister in the humid canteen environment and does not dull on contact with cleaning chemicals. Colour is chosen from the RAL chart.

The feet carry impact-absorbing plastic glides. Canteen tables are pushed and pulled dozens of times a day, so these glides both protect the floor and lower the noise level during service — a noticeable comfort difference in a crowded canteen.

Layout and capacity planning

At least 100–120 cm of aisle should be left between rows of tables; this distance is required so that someone can pass behind a seated person carrying a tray. The main aisle running from the service counter to the tables should be wider, to prevent congestion at the start of a sitting.

Table numbers are calculated from how many people must be seated at once: the total student number divided by the number of service rounds. Share your student numbers and how many rounds you serve in, and we will prepare that calculation and the layout proposal.
