Dünya Double Student Desk

The Dünya double student desk, with four top materials and two modesty panel alternatives, offers the widest material range among double desks. It is produced under the code SR 21; with its upright tube profile skeleton and wide-based skid foot it shares the same engineering approach as the single Dünya, with capacity raised to two pupils.

Melamine panel: a quiet, warm surface

The most frequently chosen configuration of this model is the one with a melamine modesty panel. When the melamine panel is chosen from the same colour family as the top, the desk reads as a single piece of furniture; it looks like a continuation of the wood texture and does not give the room a metal-heavy appearance. Its second and more concrete benefit is acoustic: compared with sheet panels, melamine reflects impact sounds less. In a room of thirty pupils, the sound echoing all day off the front panels of fifteen desks directly affects how audible the teacher is. As an alternative, a perforated sheet panel is also offered; it is more impact resistant and quicker to clean.

Four top materials, one frame

For the top there are Werzalit, CDF, compact laminate and melamine options. That breadth lets one product family answer different needs in different parts of the same school: compact in classrooms adjacent to the science laboratory, Werzalit in ordinary rooms, melamine in departments where budget is the priority. Because the frame stays the same in every configuration, visual consistency across the school is not broken and service works with a single skeleton.

A point often missed when choosing materials is that the colour charts are independent of one another. Werzalit, melamine and compact laminate each have their own colour families, and two tones with the same name may not look the same in two different materials. If you are going to choose the top and the modesty panel in different materials, we recommend seeing the two side by side before ordering. Decisions made from a catalogue that fail to meet expectations on delivery day usually stem not from material quality but from this chart difference. Upright profile skeleton and long-frame balance

The skeleton consists of tube profiles positioned vertically beneath the top, meeting the floor on a wide-based skid foot. On double frames this arrangement has a clear advantage: as a desk gets longer the tipping moment increases, and a wide base widens the bearing point that meets that moment. Two pupils leaning on the same edge at the same time is a real and frequent loading scenario on double desks; the wide-based foot is chosen for exactly that. The plastic glides at the leg ends protect the floor and reduce the noise made when the desk is pulled.

The second benefit of the upright profile arrangement emerges over the long term. On curved frames, load produces a moment at the profile’s point of curvature; on an upright profile force is transferred straight along the axis and that point fatigue does not form. Given that desks stay in use for more than ten years, this difference determines when symptoms such as paint cracking or loosening at a weld point appear. In state schools the expected service life of furniture is often longer than projected, which makes skeleton geometry a more decisive item than initial investment cost. The fact that the same frame logic is used on the single model too makes it possible to work with one service and spare-part approach across the school.

Book rack, pen groove and daily order

Beneath the top there is a wire book rack running the length of the desk; two pupils’ notebooks and books go there. The open texture of the wire prevents the invisible build-up that forms in closed drawers and lets the baskets be removed and washed during the end-of-year clean. There are two separate pen grooves on the top. Positioning the rack below knee level is a deliberate choice that provides storage without restricting seating comfort.

On double desks, use of the book rack settles into an order of its own over time: pupils claim the region on their own side. A divider placed at the centre of the basket can also be added later for schools that want to make that sharing explicit. In practice whether this is necessary varies with age group — at primary level marking the boundaries physically helps, whereas at high school pupils organise the sharing themselves. Colour and step selection

Frame, panel and top colours are determined through the RAL chart and the material charts. Heights are produced at primary, middle and high school steps. On double desks the height difference between the two pupils sharing one frame has to be considered; grouping classes by height spread and distributing the steps accordingly gives the most efficient result. In practice most schools choose one predominant step and add a limited quantity from a second one alongside it; that turns out to be a balanced approach preserving both budget and consistency.
