Round Snack Bar Table

The round snack bar table is designed around the fact that a school snack bar is a different space from a canteen. It is an area where students sit briefly during break, stay in motion and where the crowd changes within minutes. Produced by Sırasan under code YM 03, this table is dimensioned for that fluid use with its 90 cm diameter round Werzalit top.

Why round?

A round top delivers three concrete advantages in a snack bar. The first is the absence of corners: the risk of students running, turning with backpacks or hurrying past striking a sharp corner disappears. Most minor accidents in a snack bar originate at table corners.

The second is seating flexibility: on a rectangular table, seats are fixed; on a round table students spread around the circumference as they wish. A group of three and a group of four both use the same table comfortably.

The third is circulation: paths open naturally between round tables. Instead of the hard corridors formed by rectangular tables, a round layout gives smoother movement during crowded breaks.

90 cm diameter and capacity

A 90 cm diameter is a balanced dimension for snack bar use. It suits four people; each student gets roughly 70 cm of arc, a comfortable distance for a plate-and-glass arrangement without trays. For short sittings, five can squeeze in.

Larger diameters (100–120 cm) usually work against you in a snack bar: the area per table grows, fewer tables fit in the same space and break-time seating capacity falls. Smaller diameters cause elbows to clash with four people. 90 cm is the balance point between those two extremes.

Werzalit top

The top is Werzalit: a homogeneous material produced by pressing wood fibre with resin under high pressure. It is not a facing — the body itself is moisture resistant. Its edge is machined as a rounded profile with no separate band applied, so there is no edge to lift.

A snack bar table is wiped many times a day; spilled drinks, yoghurt and ayran residue are ordinary occurrences. Werzalit does not stain under that use and does not take on water at the edges. The wood texture of the surface gives the snack bar a warmer look than a cold cafeteria feel.

Frame and stability

The frame is made from steel profile and finished with electrostatic powder coating. On round tables the most critical issue is stability: single-pedestal round tables risk tipping when someone leans on the edge, so the base plate and foot spread are designed in proportion to the top diameter.

The feet carry impact-absorbing plastic glides. Because snack bar tables are constantly pushed and pulled by students, these glides protect the floor and reduce noise. Colour is chosen from the RAL chart; some schools prefer lively tones over corporate colours here, since bright colours make the space more inviting.

Snack bar layout

Table layout in a snack bar must account for the queuing area in front of the sales counter. If tables are placed too close to the counter, the queue spills over the people seated. Leaving at least 200 cm of free space in front of the counter prevents congestion at peak break times.
