Tekno Double Student Desk

The Tekno double student desk, with its angular box profile frame and three separate code options (SR 15, SR 17, SR 19), is the model in the double desk family that offers the most configurations. It is produced with a 45×110 cm Werzalit or 49×120 cm CDF top; the modesty panel can be melamine, MDF-lam or compact laminate, or the desk can be chosen entirely without a panel.

Three codes, three configurations

The first thing that separates this model from other double desks is the range of codes. SR 15, SR 17 and SR 19 are different configurations of the same design language; which one suits you becomes clear once the top material, panel type and height step decisions are made. In practice this means being able to answer different budget and usage scenarios while staying within a single product family. We write clearly at the quotation stage which code corresponds to what, so that orders and spare-part requests in later years do not get confused.

Box profile frame and centre support

The frame is produced from rectangular-section box profile and, in addition to the leg sets at the two ends, there is a load-bearing column at the centre. This detail matters on double desks: a top 110–120 cm wide, carried only at its two ends, tends to sag in the middle region over time. The centre support divides that span in two and stiffens the frame’s response when the middle of the top is loaded — which is exactly where pupils lean. The leg sets are also joined to one another by a horizontal rail underneath; that connection prevents the shearing movement that occurs when the desk is pushed from the side.

Modesty panel: three materials or none

Three materials are offered on the panel side. Melamine is the economical one with the widest colour variety. MDF-lam is a step more impact resistant thanks to its denser body. Compact laminate is the most durable option; it lasts long in damp environments and under intensive use. Beyond these, a panel-free configuration is also possible — the underside of the desk stays completely open, the room feels airier and floor cleaning is quicker. The panel-free build also reduces the weight of the desk, which is practical in classrooms that change layout.

A rarely discussed benefit of the panel-free configuration is ease of maintenance. With no panel, all the frame’s joints stay visible; in a simple annual check, screw tightness, the seating of the centre column and glide wear can all be assessed at a glance. On panelled builds the panel has to be removed for that check, and in practice most schools skip it. Much of the loosening that appears in a desk’s second five years consists of problems that would take a few minutes to solve if noticed early. Top and book rack layout

Beneath the top there is a wire book rack running the length of the desk; two pupils’ daily notebooks and books go there. There are two separate pen grooves on the upper surface of the top. As a surface material, Werzalit represents the classic wood texture, while CDF represents a harder, moisture-resistant structure with a black core edge. The sharp edge of CDF speaks the same language as the angular line of the box profile; if a contemporary classroom look is the aim, this pairing is preferred.

Making the book rack a single long basket on double desks is a deliberate choice. With divided baskets each pupil has to fit everything into their own compartment; when a thick textbook or a project folder does not go in, it ends up on top of the desk. A full-length basket gives that flexibility: how much room each pupil takes can change during the day. Which classrooms is it suitable for?

This model can be used both in fixed-layout classic classrooms and in rooms whose arrangement changes often — the panel decision determines that preference. The panelled configuration comes to the fore in rooms with high presentational value, the panel-free one in rooms used for several purposes and cleared away often. Heights come in three steps: primary, middle and high school; frame and panel colours are chosen from the RAL chart.

It is also a model used frequently in multi-purpose halls. In schools where conference, parents’ meeting and examination layouts are all set up in the same space, being able to gather and rearrange desks quickly becomes decisive. The lightness of the panel-free configuration works directly in your favour here: a two-seat frame is not carried by one person, but two staff move it comfortably and a layout change is completed within minutes. In fixed classrooms, on the other hand, the tidy appearance of the panelled build comes to the fore. Distributing the two configurations by space within one school gives the most efficient result.

Ordering and delivery planning

The items to be settled on the order are these: code selection, top material, panel material or the panel-free preference, colour and height step. If your school’s delivery schedule falls close to the start of the academic year, we plan the production sequence accordingly — with late orders the most frequent problem is not the product but a compressed calendar. The transport charge is shown as a separate item in the quotation; it is calculated according to order volume and destination province and is not included in the product price.
