Product Description
The student art table is the hardest-wearing item in a visual arts room. Water, gouache, acrylic, glue, craft knives and pastels all meet the same surface; an ordinary classroom desk will not survive a single year of it. Produced by Sırasan under code RM 01, this table offers a 50×70 cm surface on which drawing paper opens comfortably and materials can be laid along the edge.
Why a dedicated art table?
A standard student desk top is roughly 45×63 cm, sized for notebooks and textbooks. In an art lesson, a 35×50 cm sheet, a water pot, a palette and a brush set all sit on the surface at once. The 50×70 cm top is dimensioned with that in mind: even with the paper fully open there is still room at the edges for materials, and the student can rest their elbows and work comfortably.
The second difference is surface durability. An art table top meets water, paint and cutting tools. The melamine surface wipes clean and does not stain; if you expect heavier use, the compact laminate option raises scratch and chemical resistance by a further step.
50×70 cm top and working area
The top is produced in 50×70 cm melamine. Edges are sealed with PVC banding — the critical detail that keeps water out of the panel and protects the corners against impact. In art rooms the corners are the first area to wear, so edge banding quality directly determines the life of the table.
A matt surface is recommended. Glossy surfaces reflect the ceiling lighting and make it harder for students to see their own work; a matt surface breaks that reflection and does not distort colour perception. Light, neutral tones are also recommended: a dark or saturated top misleads the eye about the colours of the work sitting on it.
Electrostatic powder-coated frame
The frame is made from steel profile and finished with electrostatic powder coating. Because the coating is oven-cured and bonded to the metal, it does not flake on impact and does not blister on contact with water or paint droplets. In an art room, where the floor and the furniture are constantly wet, this is a clear durability advantage over wet-painted frames.
Colour is chosen from the RAL chart. The feet carry impact-absorbing plastic glides that protect the floor and reduce the noise made when a table is pulled.
Studio layout
Art tables can be used singly or arranged in pairs or four-table islands. An island layout makes it easier for students to share common materials — water pots, palettes, card stock — and lets the teacher reach every student faster. A single layout is preferred where individual work and examination conditions are required.
When planning a studio, leaving at least 80–90 cm between tables is important so that a student can push the chair back and stand up. Share your room dimensions and we will prepare a layout proposal showing how many tables fit and in which arrangement.
The rest of the art room
An art table alone does not make a studio. Material storage, a drying rack, proximity to a sink and the right chair choice matter just as much. For chairs we recommend models that match the table height, support the back and clean easily; moulded plastic chairs are the most practical option where paint is involved.

Tilting top and lower shelf
The defining feature of this table for an art room is its tilting top. The rear half of the top lifts, angling the drawing surface towards the student. That delivers three things a flat table cannot: the distance between eye and paper is evened out, the student does not have to lean forward, and work proceeds without perspective distortion. On a flat table, long drawing sessions make neck and back fatigue unavoidable; a tilting top solves that directly.
When the top is raised, the fixed section beneath it stays horizontal — the water pot, palette and brush set sit there and do not slide off the angled surface. The shelf under the top is reserved for drawing paper, card stock and material boxes, so the working surface stays clear.
Where a flat surface is required — a theory lesson or an examination — the top is closed and the table is used normally. A single table serves both drawing and writing layouts, which means not having to buy a second table.
